The Koko Crater Trail length is about 0.7 miles for a round trip distance of 1.4 total miles on this out and back trail.
However, though the length of the Koko Crater Trail is deceptively small, the hike is hard because you are climbing a steep incline with challenging steps, a rise of 1200 feet in this short distance.
If that’s not enough of an exercise, there are two nearby trails you can also explore or you can choose to wander along the multiple ridgeline trails at the Koko Head summit and get different views.

Hanauma Bay Ridge Trail
Just across the Koko Head District Park where you parked is the famous Hanauma Bay, one of the best snorkeling spots on Oahu.
The Hanauma Bay Ridge Trail is at a higher elevation and offers stunning coastal views and views of Hanauma Bay.
Koko Crater Botanical Garden
On the other side of the Koko Crater, accessible by road, is the Koko Crater Botanical Garden, a unique botanical garden ensconced in the dry arid crater head.
You can hike a loop trail around the garden (about 2 miles) and view a variety of dryland plants from around the world including the African baobab and plumeria grove that is simply stunning when the flowers are in bloom.
How long is Koko Crater Trail?
As mentioned above, the Koko Crater Trail is 0.7 miles long. If the climb proves difficult, you can choose to hike partway and turn back.
Even a partial ascent up the Koko Crater Trail gives you panoramic views and a great workout!
